Seattle Wind Symphony (SWS) is an auditioned ensemble. Interested musicians may audition at any time during the year. Auditions are heard by the artistic director/conductor and appropriate section leader(s). After an audition (details below), you may be selected for either regular membership in the Seattle Wind Symphony or as an extra or substitute player.
In addition to its regular membership, the Seattle Wind Symphony maintains a roster of sub players for all instruments. These players are invited to fill in when regular members are not available. This could be for a single rehearsal, a series of rehearsals, or a full concert. We are currently seeking sub players for all sections. Substitute players are an important part of the SWS community and many sub players are given the opportunity to join as regular members when openings occur.
Audition procedures and materials to be submitted are the same for both regular and substitute members.
Audition Materials:
- One-page resume of playing experience.
- A recent recording reflecting technique and musicianship — not to exceed 10 minutes.
Material Submission:
- Email resume and URL of recording (posted on YouTube, Vimeo, or other site) to: Auditions@SeattleWindSymphony.org, or
- If you would prefer to mail a hard-copy resume and recording (mp3, AIF, WMA, Quicktime), please contact Auditions@SeattleWindSymphony.org to make arrangements.
- In-person auditions are also welcome and can be scheduled by contacting: Auditions@SeattleWindSymphony.org.
